The symbol of the Sufi Movement is a heart with wings, containing a crescent moon and a star. The heart is both earthly and heavenly, a medium between body and soul, spirit and matter. The crescent suggests the responsiveness of the heart, just as the crescent moon is responsive to the light of the sun. The five-pointed star represents the divine light. When the heart holds the divine Spirit, it soars heavenward; the wings picture its rising.
